I am conflicted with the election results in Michigan and the United States. As I sort through things in my mind, heart, and spirit, I find myself drawn back to God’s Word. Nowhere in scripture are we given an easy road to walk. Now where in scripture do we see that Americans are guaranteed an easy life without persecution? Nowhere in scripture is there a victory without a fight.
We must remember that the church is called to hold back evil. 2 Thessalonians 2:7 (NLT) states, “For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way.” The lawlessness that we see has been active for a long time. Why have we thought that a couple of elections would defeat it? Does the defeat of lawlessness happen through politics? No, the defeat of lawlessness must start with a Holy Spirit conviction of sin that leads to repentance. This must first take place in the lives of believers, then in the lives of those we touch. We are living in a world that will continue to grow lawless. We are told to be the light in the darkness. To do that, there needs to be darkness. We are told that we are the salt of the earth. To preserve something, there needs to be the threat of decay.
Politics is not the way we will change a nation. Politicians may make it difficult to be the light, but they cannot stop light or salt from being effective. We have seen a grassroots movement come forward in the past two years. That is where change will come from. You don’t change things from the top down. We must start at the roots. Start in your family, school, neighborhood, and community. Get involved in changing the root, and we will change a nation!
